Myanmar's war on rebels: Junta loses key town on Thai border

Troops in Myanmar have confirmed they've withdrawn from their positions in a trade hub near the border with Thailand. Fighting between the army and armed resistance groups has been flaring for months, with the ruling junta facing heavy losses. As a result, many Burmese are now fleeing to Thailand. We take a closer look.

Meanwhile, India is set to kick off its general election process on April 19. The vote will be staggered over a six-week period. The ruling BJP is hoping to retain its majority so Prime Minister Narendra Modi can secure a third term in office. The main opposition Congress Party is promising to create jobs for the youth and stop India's slide into what it says is an autocracy. Before the vote kicks off, the production of campaign merchandise has already rolled into high gear.

Finally, South Korea's president is set to remain a lame duck for the rest of his term in office, after this week's parliamentary polls handed the liberal opposition a landslide victory. The country's prime minister and senior presidential officials have offered to resign, with the president promising reforms.
