Though the right to asylum is guaranteed by European and international law, asylum seekers and refugees are faced with myriad administrative and social barriers of which the recurring shipwrecks in the Mediterranean are a constant reminder. In response ordinary citizens have taken it upon themselves to help make asylum seekers and refugees feel at home. The Refugee Food festival is just one example.
