Europe migrant crisis: What can Rome expect from Brussels?

New figures published by the United Nations show over 400 people drowned in early 2023 trying to Europe by sea. It is the highest death toll in the Mediterrean since 2017. The new data comes as rescue mission is underway in the waters south of Italy today after two boats carrying hundreds of people issued an emergency call earlier this week. In Rome, the Italian government says more action is urgently needed to prevent migrant crossings. Today it has declared a six-month state of emergency and is calling on its European partners to do more. FRANCE 24's correspondent in Brussels Dave Keating explains.
